A Faith Statement
We believe in historic orthodox Christianity; specifically, the Triune God: Father, Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. This faith is best expressed in the ancient creeds of the Christian Faith: the Apostles Creed and the Nicene Creed.
Prayer is essential for the Christian life, and the Lord's Prayer is a model taught by Jesus. It has been said that the Lord's Prayer "is truly the summary of the whole gospel". The prayer is used by most Christian churches in their worship, and according to Fuller Seminary professor Clayton Schmit, "there is a sense of solidarity in knowing that Christians around the globe are praying together ... and these words always unite us".
We affirm that the language of the Christian faith is love. God is Love [1 John 4:8 NIV 1984] is best expressed through the life of Jesus. We also recognize that God's (Jesus') love is perfect, while ours is very imperfect. God is the definition of love; our understanding of love is not the definition of God. If we understand God and Jesus only through the lens of love, however, we have an incomplete picture; if we see only the crucified Jesus and not the risen and ascended Lord we likewise have an incomplete picture.
Our 'calling card' has for years contained in addition to our contact information:
That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. [Romans 10:9 NIV 1984]
